Despite sleeping for about 9.5 hours, I still feel like I need some more sleep. In Singapore, I didn't sleep at all during the 13 hour layover but instead wandered the airport with Charles. I must say, the Singapore Changi Airport must be one of the nicest ones I've been to. It even had 4 different gardens to visit. However, once I sat down on the plane to Phnom Penh, I fell fast asleep, even before takeoff. I woke to a stewardess shaking and asking me if I wanted fish or chicken.
Sherry, one of the country representatives, and Ben, another MCCer, met us at the airport. I got my visa and got through customs without much difficulty. The truck ride to the MCC office and guesthouse was the typical third world ride. And I must say, from what I saw of Phnom Penh last night, I wasn't too impressed. It looks the same as any other, um how to I word this, capital city that has had a crushed ecomony and been devistated by war (directly or indirectly) caused by the good ole USA.
However, the MCC office is nicer than what I expected. The library is nicely furnished and my room is the guesthouse is wonderful. I'll be here for about two weeks. Wednesday we are going to visit Prey Veng town and meet our host families. The following week we will move to Prey Veng and live with host families for 1 to 3 months. Then I can decide if I want to continue living with the family or find a room or appartment to live in. Language study will begin Monday.
It's now 7:20 am. Elijah will not come until 8 or 8:30 to walk with us to Larry and Sherry's house for breakfast. Unfortuately I have been hungry since I woke up. Until next time...
